JAKARTA - Muslim Scholars Prof. Dr. Quraish Shihab HM Supreme Court awarded the Islamic Book Fair (IBF) Award as the People of the Islamic Book, 2009.
Awards of trophies, certificates and cash handed over by the Chairman of Association of Indonesian Publishers (IKAPI) DKI Jakarta HE Afrizal Sinaro to the former Minister of Religious Affairs in the opening series of events IBF to-8 Year 2009 on Istora Bung Karno Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday.
Afrizal said the reasons for granting the award for Book People of Islam 2009 to Quraish Shihab HM partly because the Quraysh considered to have proven capable of inspiring the development of Indonesian Book through his books.
He mentions a number of Quraish Shihab's book is quite popular, phenomenal and become "best sellers" such as "Membumikan Koran (Bandung: Mizan, 1992) and" Tafsir Al Mishbah ", Koranic exegesis? The full 30 Juz (New York: Lantern Heart).
A number of other books by Quraish Shihab HM among the "Tafsir al-Manar, privilege and disadvantage" (Ujung Pandang: IAIN Alauddin, 1984), "Philosophy of Islamic Law" (Jakarta: Ministry of Religious Affairs, 1987), and "Crown of Divine Guidance (Tafseer Surat Al-Fatiha) "(New York: Untagma, 1988).
"In addition, he (Quraish Shihab), also known as religious leaders and educators, in addition he also founded his own publishing the Publisher Lantern Heart. So, he really deserves the award," he said.
The event is also presented four awards IBF Best Islamic Book Award 2009 which is the first fiction category for children entitled "My mom Chayank, Muach!" works of Sri Izzati (Publisher Dar Mizan), second in the category of adult fiction book titled "The Road Ti The Empire" by Sprott Yudisia (Publisher Circumference Pena Publishing House).
While the third award for the category of non-fiction book titled "Muhammad: The Super Leader Super Manager" by Dr Muhammad Syafii Antonio, MEC (publisher Tazkia Multimedia & ProLM Center and the fourth category for the best translation of books titled "5 Challenge Against Eternal Religion" by Saiyad Fareed Ahmad and Ahmad Saiyad Salahudin translated by Rudy Harisyah Nature (publisher Mizan).
Meanwhile, Quraish Shihab, in his speech when receiving the award said,The most appropriate word related to these awards is to thank and Praise.
"Actually I was not the right person to receive this award. I had thought not to accept it because there are many others who are better, but if you reject it later could lead to interpretations, it is with great humility, I accept with gratitude, "he said.
She hoped that the award can be a driving force for him to further improve the gait and his work in the field of writing.
Muhammad Quraish Shihab was born in Rappang, South Sulawesi, on February 16, 1944. After completing his tertiary studies in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Quraish continued secondary education in Malang, East Java, while "nyantri" at Pondok Pesantren Darul Hadith Al Faqihiyyah.
In 1958, the Quraysh continuing education to Cairo, Egypt, to Lc degree (S1) at the Faculty of Tafsir and Hadith Ushuluddin Department of Al Azhar University. In 1969, he earned his MA in specialized areas of Tafsir Al-Quran at the same university. He obtained his doctorate in 1980 also at the university of Al Azhar, Cairo, Egypt, in the Quran sciences.
Quraish Shihab believed to be the Minister of Religious Affairs at the Seventh Development Cabinet (March 16, 1998 until May 21, 1998).
